It was an honour and a pleasure to meet the inspirational Jeanne Socrates on the Najad Yachts stand on the penultimate day of the 2019 Southampton International Boat Show.
In September 2019, Jeanne completed her second circumnavigation. This is no mean feat for any sailor, however, for Jeanne, this journey has resulted in her joining the record books as she is the oldest person to sail solo, unassisted, non-stop around the world from North America. Jeanne set off aged 76 and celebrated her 77thbirthday in August aboard her yacht SV Nereida. After over 320 days at sea, she arrived safely back into Victoria, British Columbia. The yacht she chose to sail? A Najad 380.
Our friends at Sail magazine tested the Najad 380 when it was first launched and said, “It’s fast, responsive, spacious, and beautifully detailed. If you’re a sailor who wants to know that everything aboard is just so, look at this boat.”
Ian Dighé, Chairman of SE Yachts, the exclusive UK distributor of Najad Yachts of Sweden, Arcona Yachts and Delta Powerboats, said, “What inspires us most about Jeanne’s circumnavigation is that Jeanne has proved that age is no barrier to achievement. For someone who chose to learn how to sail in her late Forties, it is also incredibly impressive to show how it’s never too late to fulfil your dream.”
With the exceptional achievement by Jeanne Socrates, we’re sure that this will continue to inspire all of us, no matter what gender or age, to get out on the water and set sail.
SE Yachts is delighted to support Jeanne’s initiative to encourage more women to sail. Find out more about Jeanne Socrates by visiting: http://www.svnereida.com
