We are thrilled to announce the newest breakthrough from the partnership between Candela and Polestar, two brands pushing the boundaries of premium electric mobility. The latest Candela collaboration presents a combination of iconic design and an unmatched electric performance at sea, the Candela C-8 Polestar edition.
Born out of Swedish ingenuity, the Candela C-8 Polestar edition is the embodiment of sustainability and luxury in the marine industry. Its design was engineered with the precision and passion characteristic of Polestar, bringing the company’s signature minimalist, Scandinavian luxury to the maritime realm.
Maximilian Missoni, the Head of Design at Polestar, encapsulated the ethos of the product:
“As designers, we have the talent to create desirable objects and the responsibility to do it in a sustainable way. With the Candela C-8 Polestar edition, we’re showing that the right choice and the desirable choice can be one in the same.”
Polestar’s design prowess shines through the Candela C-8 Polestar edition, painting it with striking visual cues. This includes a solid grey exterior color which complements a lighter grey tone used for interior areas.
Staying true to Polestar’s mono-material approach to interiors, the same marine-certified textile has been incorporated across the board, from the seats, cushions, and sunbeds, to wall and roof panels. Moreover, the upholstery used is specially designed to enhance comfort, elevating the experience of gliding silently across the water, only possible in a state-of-the-art electric hydrofoil boat.
To accentuate our hydrofoil technology, the hydrofoils have been painted in the iconic Swedish gold colour that signifies Polestar’s performance details. This not only emphasises the technological prowess of the vessel but also adds a touch of elegance and distinction.
The Candela C-8 Polestar edition marries the spirit of sustainability with extraordinary performance. This exquisite vessel is powered by the same 69 kWh battery and charging hardware used in the standard-range Polestar 2, offering a range of up to 57 nautical miles on a single charge at a cruising speed of 22 knots.
When compared to conventional powerboats, the Candela C-8’s performance is formidable, boasting a high-speed range that is 2-3 times longer than typical electric speedboats. Its efficiency is further enhanced by Candela’s new 75 kW electric direct drive pod motor, the Candela C-POD. This innovation allows the boat to ‘fly’ on computer-guided hydrofoils, reducing energy consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional motorboats.
“Candela’s hydrofoil technology is a paradigm shift for sustainable performance in the marine industry. Like the first time driving an electric car, you instantly feel that this is the future when the boat ‘takes off’.” – Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar
The Candela C-8 Polestar edition comes in three variations: an open daycruiser, a T-top version, and a weather-protected hardtop version.
The C-8 can comfortably accommodate up to eight people. Moreover, the forward cabin provides sleeping space for two adults and two children, ensuring a smooth, comfortable voyage for the whole family.
With production taking place at Candela’s factory in Stockholm, Sweden, customers can expect deliveries to begin in June 2024.
Prices start from EUR 400,000 – a worthy investment for those looking to experience the future of sustainable maritime mobility without compromising on style or performance.
“Aesthetic excellence is an intrinsic value but it can also serve as a powerful driving force towards a sustainable future. At Candela, our primary focus is to create vessels that are more compelling in every respect. I am therefore pleased about the C-8 Polestar Edition and the collaboration with the brilliant team at Polestar.” – Gustav Hasselskog, CEO & founder of Candela
The Candela C-8 Polestar Edition represents a leap forward in electric mobility at sea, merging design, performance, and sustainability in one exceptional package. It’s not just a boat—it’s a testament to the exciting potential of electric mobility, whether on land or at sea. We believe that it is the future of marine transportation, and we would be thrilled to have you aboard on this exciting journey.
