Arcona 380 Round The Island Race Success

A special shout out to the owners and crew of Arcona 380, Triarchy in the Round the Island Race on 1st July, for taking first in Class, first in Group (against some tough competition – see table below) and 4th Overall ISC! Along with the owners, Oliver (helm) and Faith (pit) Reynolds, their crew also included Arcona 50 Designer and Naval Architect Ariadna Pons (trimmer) and Junior Naval Architect, Pedro de Peñaranda (bowman), from designers, Jeppesen & Pons. Congratulations to all of the yachts who took part in the Round the Island Race, around the Isle of Wight, especially the Arcona yachts!

The owners of Triarchy said: “Fabulous weekend with all of the Sailing Triarchy crew! Round the Island in 08.08hrs, taking the first in Class, Group and 4th Overall ISC. A windy one, but a great one!

Ariadna Pons said, “It was blowing 20-25 knots from the get-go and Triarchy handled the conditions in her stride. We were lucky to have experienced sailors on board who knew the course well and could handle the sea and weather conditions. This was the 3rd time I’ve raced ‘Round the Island’ but the first time with this much breeze so it was a lot of fun. The wind dropped on the final stretch so we could play with a new kite from North Sails. The Arcona 380 was great to sail and easy to handle in all conditions. Thanks to the owners for inviting us on board as crew.

Feisty and sometimes challenging conditions resulted in an exciting race for the 1100 yachts participating. Arcona 380 Cola’s ARC finished 179th overall, 33rd in group and 14th in class IRC Div 1C. Arcona 355 Tangaroa finished 394th overall, 60th in group and 10th in class ISCRS 4C.

Dave Atkinson, Race Director, said: “We were carefully monitoring the weather and knew it was going to be a challenge especially for the smaller and less experienced boats. The whole of the Race Team are incredibly proud of the determination of the competitors to complete the race but with a high regard for safety which is paramount for a race of this kind. A huge thanks to the support services of the RNLI, independent lifeboat crews and the Coastguard who worked closely with our team before and during the race.”

The race next year will be held on Saturday 15th June 2024. Entries will be open from early in the new year.

Awesome effort. Congratulations to all.
