The Arcona rally to Jersey was an exhilarating event that brought together Arcona owners from all around the UK. Spanning across approx. 100 nautical miles, this rally offered participants an unforgettable experience of adventure, camaraderie, and breathtakingly natural beauty – in true British April seastates!
The rally commenced in the picturesque town of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, where a fleet of sleek and elegant Arcona yachts gathered. Following a great evening meal at the King’s Head, the excitement was palpable as sailors prepared their vessels the next day, ensuring everything was ready for the journey ahead.
As the sun rose on the first day, they set sail, gliding through the mixed conditions on the waters of the English Channel. The route took them past the rugged cliffs of the Jurassic Coastline, where the sight of towering limestone formations provided a dramatic backdrop.
The rally’s midpoint was the enchanting island of Guernsey, where the Arcona owners and crew met in Alderney for a hearty meal at Braye Beach hotel.
From Guernsey, the rally continued towards its final destination, the stunning island of Jersey. The Arcona owners and crew navigated through challenging tides and currents, testing their skills and resilience. However, the sense of achievement upon reaching Jersey’s shores was immeasurable. St Helier, Jersey’s beautiful capital, welcomed the weary sailors with open arms. More Arcona owners joined the rally there, having left from Falmouth.
After a good night’s rest, a delicious breakfast was enjoyed together at the Market Kitchen, Central and Beresford Street Market in St. Helier.
The footage in the video clip below captures the highlights of a typically British day whilst some of the Arcona yachts were out having some fun on the water in Jersey in a pursuit challenge. True to form these Arcona yachts handled the conditions in their stride!
The rally culminated in a delightful celebration at the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, with participants sharing tales of their adventures over a delicious meal. The sense of camaraderie among the sailors was palpable and the setting overlooking the St Aubin’s, the centre of sailing in Jersey, was something to behold. With the Coronation of King Charles III taking place on 6th May 2023 just after the Arcona rally, dining in a Royal Yacht Club, as designated in 1862 by Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, felt rather fitting!
The Arcona Yachts rally to Jersey was not just a test of seamanship but also a celebration of the indomitable spirit of exploration. It showcased the beauty of the sea, the power of the wind, and the resilience of those who dare to embark on a sailing adventure.
The Arcona 435 Mk II went on to be on display at the Barclays Jersey Boat Show over the May Day weekend. With some owners departing back to the mainland, whilst Arcona 410, Brave, headed to St Peter Port, next stop St Malo, Brittany and ports to La Rochelle.
The owners of Brave said, “The rally was a great way to start our trip. Thank you to Alasdair and the SE Yachts team. Great to meet you all. Until next time, safe (and fast) sailing.”
Thank you to all of the owners who joined us. We look forward to the next time. We’re thinking Dartmouth 2024… Hope to see you there!
