Congratulations to Arcona 435 MK II, Ohana and Arcona 435 Mk II, Gentoo (pictured above) on the podium finish in Cruising Class B of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC). Arcona 400, Greta, was not far behind them fully embracing the rally of a lifetime in Cruising Class C. Well done to all crews on their success with these fast luxury bluewater cruisers.
On Tuesday 10th December, Arcona 435 Mk II, Ohana, finished the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers after 16 days and 5 hours of sailing. She is owned by Ken Wisdom from the USA and had a total crew of five for the Atlantic crossing which began in Gran Canaria and ended at Rodney Bay in Saint Lucia.
On Wednesday 11th December, Arcona 435 Mk II, Gentoo, owned by Phil Balderson from Jersey, finished the ARC after 17 days at sea.
Arcona 400, Greta, arrived on Thursday 12th December. Do check out their instagram as they had an absolutely fantastic time on their ARC crossing.
The squally conditions caused some intense sailing for Arcona 435 Mk II, Gentoo. Simon Rosier, crew on board and SE Yachts Director said, “After 17 days at sea crossing the Atlantic, I can honestly say the Arcona 435 Mk II is ideal for bluewater cruising. We faced all sorts of weather and the 435 handled the mixture of conditions in her stride.”
Phil Balderson, owner of Gentoo, was interviewed by the ARC team for their social media upon arrival in Saint Lucia, and he said, “…we’ve just completed the ARC 2024 and had a really lovely fast run. It’s been absolutely blissful actually. This little toy here is our hydro generator which is my favourite toy. She has created pure power for us for all of the 3000 miles that we’ve travelled so it’s meant that we’ve had absolutely zero anxiety about power. We’ve got a little bit of soda up here as well so we have been enjoying litres and litres of fresh water, hot showers and blasting along across the ocean. We’re very very happy to be here. We got second place in our division which we’re really delighted with. We got such a warm welcome this morning, we arrived at 3am local time, the yellow T-shirts were out in force welcoming us on the radio and welcoming us at the pontoon. It’s been a really fantastic time and now we’re looking forward to drinking an awful lot of beer!”
SE Yachts worked closely with the owners of Gentoo in preparing their Arcona for their ARC adventure. Simon has sailed the Atlantic before but not on an Arcona. He was delighted to be asked to crew Gentoo for the ARC 2024 and experience how beautifully the Arcona 435 Mk II is suited for the rally. If you have any questions or are interested in doing the ARC, we have the yachts, the expertise and now first hand experience so please don’t hesitate to contact us on info@seyachts.com!
